Permitting documents for foreigners to work in Finland
The permit of the Finnish Migration Service for foreigners without EU citizenship is called a Work Visa. One of the most attractive ways to earn money is temporary employment in the harvesting of wild berries and mushrooms, in greenhouses, and vegetable processing plants. To leave for 1.5-2 months, you will still need a Finnish work visa. To apply for a job under a contract for more than 90 days, in addition to a visa, you will need a residence permit in the country; the documents are issued in Ukraine before leaving abroad. You can leave by:
- Short-term visa (C3) for a period not exceeding 90 days (seasonal work). A residence permit is not required.
- A category D permit for the entire period specified in the employment contract (usually 1 year, can be extended upon expiration).
To apply for a D visa, the employer must:
- provide confirmation from the Employment Exchange that there are no EU citizens applying for the position.
- make an Invitation and apply for the Right to Reside in the Country.
There are two types of residence permits:
- Category “B” permit is issued to those who have entered into an employment contract for the first time. The term of validity is limited by the terms of the contract.
- Category “A” is issued for a period of 4 years after the expiration of the “B” permit, if the contract with the employer is extended.
Upon arrival in Finland, the visa and residence permit must be registered with the Migration Service. The absence of registration equates the working person with illegal immigrants, the punishment is deportation.
Rights of Ukrainians while working and living in Finland
Having a long-term work visa implies the right to change jobs without changing the type of activity. A category “A” residence permit provides the use of preferences on an equal basis with the Finns (except for the opportunity to participate in elections). After four years of residence in Finland, Ukrainians can apply for permanent residence, and then citizenship (obtaining status “P”). To do this, you must pass an exam on knowledge of the Finnish language and then there is an opportunity to become a citizen of the state of Finland.
