Insurance in the Czech Republic

It became possible for a Ukrainian to get a legal job in the Czech Republic only a few years ago – in 2016. Before that, since 2008, foreigners had not been issued work visas. Girls and women resorted to trickery, entering into fictitious marriages, and men worked only illegally or on Polish visas, which was fraught with deportation. Now there are no problems with official employment, but insurance is required to obtain a visa to the Czech Republic.

Types of medical insurance for a visa to the Czech Republic

Insurance is a mandatory requirement for obtaining a work visa to the Czech Republic and a source of your peace of mind in a foreign country. You should not skimp on this expense item, and before you draw up a document, you should carefully consider all the risks that you may encounter abroad. The level of your protection depends on the number of points specified in the policy. Consider all the nuances, from chronic diseases to possible risks associated with working conditions. Without a medical policy, Ukrainians do not have the opportunity to seek help in foreign clinics for the treatment of injuries and illnesses received during working hours.

Rules for registration of insurance policy

Requirements for a medical insurance policy in the Czech Republic have a number of standard requirements:

  • apply to the entire intended period of travel;
  • the minimum insurance coverage must be 30,000 euros (excluding deductible);
  • all Schengen countries must be included in the insurance policy area.

Due to the absence of borders as such in Europe, it is assumed that Ukrainians can freely find themselves in a neighboring country, so insurance coverage extends to adjacent territories.

The insurance contract guarantees payment of expenses for treatment of sudden illnesses, injuries in the Czech Republic, related to transportation of the insured person to the place. To obtain a double or multiple entry work visa (shift employment), it is

necessary to issue a policy with dates covering both entries or to issue a document separately for each trip.

For trips longer than 30 days, experienced labor migrants recommend increasing the insurance amount to 50,000 euros, and for a year – to 100,000 euros, since the likelihood of the need for multiple visits to Czech medical institutions potentially increases.

Стоимость медицинских услуг и страховки в Чехию

The minimum package of services specified in the medical policy covers the costs of:

  • delivery of the insured person to a medical institution in his/her home country, in case of an urgent need for treatment in Ukraine or his/her death;
  • expenses for operations and outpatient treatment;
  • payment for the cost of all necessary medications, tests and procedures;
  • provision of dental care in case of acute toothache.

The low cost of a Ukrainian’s health insurance contract in the Czech Republic (0.99 – 1.7 euros per day) is especially noticeable against the backdrop of the price list of services for patients in Czech hospitals:

  • 3 days of postoperative rehabilitation in a medical center – 300-1000 €;
  • Transportation of seriously ill patients to the airport – 200-1000 €;
  • Hospitalization in a private clinic – 100 €;
  • Appointment with a general practitioner – 50 €;
